Debut Author Joel Dorr Releases Comedy Filled with Romance in Those Crazy Notions of Otherwise Intelligent People
New novel pairs an out of touch therapist with an out of control DJ for a banter-filled, heartful romance that is full of misunderstandings and misgivings about what we think we know about each other. With picturesque San Diego as a backdrop, the scene is set for crazy notions that men and women share about each other, but also in finding love.
San Diego, Calif., February 9, 2016--Author Joel Dorr released his novel Those Crazy Notions of Otherwise Intelligent People on Amazon and Kindle making his debut as an author in the romance and comedy genre. Dorr, a longtime storyteller, writes in a variety of formats including screenplays, stage plays, blogs and magazine articles, and now most recently a book.
Those Crazy Notions of Otherwise Intelligent People delves into the perceptions, or misconceptions, people make of each other only to realize they were so off base. The story centers on counselor Ilena Doran who dedicates herself to helping battered women, a story she knows too well. But the therapist can't seem to get through to the one person who means the most, her son, Sammy. He is still shaken and won't speak as a result of witnessing his father's murder. Ilena fears he will be forever lost in a voice-less world unless she can reach him.
Percy Powers, a drunken, womanizing, morning talk show host, makes his living with his voice--a very successful one. He frequents parties with scantily clad womenand never met a kid he liked. But when one such party leads him to be late to the premiere of his own radio show podcast, he scrambles to come up with a promotion that will mollify management and get him off of the hotseat. They've been trying to loop in more advertising-favorable moms, so Percy blurts out that their new contest will give junior listeners a chance to spend a night out on the town with him. Moms quickly take notice and sign up their kids knowing that they too get to go on the date with Percy.
Ilena isn't even aware that her assistant nominated Sammy until he is announced as the winner. She grudgingly agrees to Night out with Percy when shee sees a long lost sparkle in her son's eye. There, for the first time in almost a year, Ilena witnesses Sammy laugh.
Can talk radio jock finally be the one to break her son's silence? Is it possible that Percy just may be the one to prove that people aren't always what they seem to be—and that salvation might come from the unlikeliest of places?
"I really wanted to craft a romance novel from more a of a male perspective. Little known secret ladies, men like to read romance too--especially if it is funny," muses author Joel Dorr. "I wanted to create a male lead that could stand-up to a strong heroine, layered with flaws but with a carring heart under all the callouses."
Those Crazy Notions of Otherwise Intelligent People is currently available on Kindle and Amazon.
